Post Chewed left Crank
Hi.
I already have another problem.
I went for a ride yesterday and my left side crank came loose. Tightened her up and rode on. Had to tighten her twice more on the way home and trying to outrun the approaching electrical storm. Guess I need a new arm eh? What kind of hurt is this going to put on me? What are the chances of finding a replacement? Yay, Nay?

Its a slotted or splined dealio. I have pics. I doubt you guys need them though. The chunks of aluminum don't show up in them all that well anyway.Image

I've got a few lines in the water. No bites yet. Can you get a replacement new without the whole set? How much?

Sorry for all my stupid questions. 8)

oh yea. the numbers from the crank. 175mm FC-M751

WHen you get the crank "tight" is there any play in the arm on the Bottom Bracket?

The crank-BB you have is the Octalink from Shimano.

You may be able to get by if there is no play with Loc-tite'ing the bolt in.

I would recommend bringing it down to the shop, and have Jay or Scooter look at it, they can tell you if you will need new parts or not.

Okay.
When its tightened up there is no play. Maybe I just didn't get it tight enough with the bike tool?? Maybe I should stay off of it until I get some Lok-tite in there or get it to the shop.(Again..Image)
Love the #'s song by the way.

edit: think I'm SOL on this one. I get it tight and pedal down the driveway and back(max.100 feet) and it loosens up, and I can still feel the allen wrench in my hand from tightening it, so it was tight. Guess I know where my check from the feds is going.

The torque spec on the crank arm is right around 40 foot pounds. But if you've put significant "stink" on the crank bolt and it continues to loosen up, you may have worn out the interface between the steel BB spindle and the Aluminum crank arm (the steel always wins that fight by the way). Stop in to the shop and we'll see about getting you set up... I'll treatcha right bro... no worries!

Yea bud! They're on there.

Giving them a good test tomorrow. I live up behind Arrowhead so down the A-head than down the tracks from LaValleys to the junction to return the tool and back.. or something like that.

I begin a new job in a couple of weeks on Penniman road in Cornish. Gonna be camping just up the road. Guess I'll have to finally test out the town forest soon.

Homie. Thanks for the invite. Can't do it this week or next. Sometime after the 1st though would be great to tag along and see if I can keep up.
